The tree is gone. What happens to the stump?
Stump grinding reduces stump wood into chips. It is a different scope from digging the stump out, and grinding does not mean every underground root is removed. Discuss what you want to do with the space before choosing the work. UF/IFAS explains different ways to deal with a stump; it also notes that some invasive species can regrow from remaining stump or root material.
Tell us how you plan to use the area
| Your plan | What to discuss in the estimate |
|---|---|
| Make the yard easier to maintain | The stump location, the intended finished level and chip handling. |
| Refresh a landscape bed | The planting area and any additional preparation needed after grinding. |
| Install a fence or hardscape | Where the new work will go and whether grinding alone fits that plan. |
| Remove several stumps | The number of stumps, their locations and access to each one. |
A stump-grinding request does not automatically include excavation, new soil, sod, planting or construction preparation. Ask for any additional work you want to be listed in the scope.
Backyard access matters
Sunny Days reviews access before confirming a stump-grinding project. Include a picture of the route from the driveway or street to the stump, along with any gate or narrow passage. Tell us about nearby fencing, irrigation and planned improvements. You do not need to select a machine yourself; provide the site information so the work can be evaluated.
What happens to the chips?
Clarify whether chips are left in place, moved to an agreed area or hauled away. If you want further yard preparation, describe the finish you expect. That keeps the stump work and the cleanup request aligned.
What to send for an estimate
- Your project ZIP code and the number of stumps.
- A photo showing each stump and its surroundings.
- A view of the gate or access route, if relevant.
- Your preferred timing and plan for the space afterward.
Photos are optional in the form. After the ZIP step, choose the stump count and access option, then add any extra details that will help us review the project.
Do you need tree removal too?
If a tree is still standing, begin with tree removal and mention stump grinding in your request. If the tree has already been removed, start directly with stump grinding.
