What should a tree removal estimate cover?

A useful estimate describes the tree work and the condition in which the property will be left. For a Sunny Days request, identify the trees you want reviewed, how the crew can reach them, and whether you also want the stump and debris addressed. The price is determined for your property after the project is reviewed; this guide is not a price list.

Five details to include in your request

  1. The work you want. Identify the whole tree or the limbs you want reviewed. If you have several trees, distinguish each one in your description or photos.
  2. The surroundings. Mention roofs, fences, a screened patio, a pool or other nearby structures. A wide photo is more helpful than a close-up of bark.
  3. The route into the yard. Explain whether access is through a gate, driveway or side yard. Mention any narrow passage that should be reviewed before equipment is scheduled.
  4. The finished result. Say whether the request includes stump grinding, hauling branches and logs, or leaving selected material on site.
  5. Your location and timing. Supply the project ZIP code and tell us when you would like to get started. We review the scope and availability before confirming work.

Compare the scope before comparing totals

Two estimates can cover different work. Use these questions to check what each proposal includes:

Part of the projectQuestion to ask
Tree workWhich trees or limbs are included?
StumpIs grinding included or quoted separately?
DebrisWill branches and logs be hauled away, or left in an agreed area?
AccessWhat access arrangements need to be made?
Final conditionWhat cleanup, chip handling or additional ground work is included?

Ask for these items to be clear before agreeing to a project. UF/IFAS also provides a tree-service hiring checklist for homeowners.

A real example: tree work beside a home

The Sunny Days gallery includes a project with damaged limbs beside a roof and screened patio. Its photos show the work area, sections being removed, collected debris and the cleaned yard. That sequence helps explain why an estimate needs to cover the surroundings and cleanup as well as the tree itself.

What if the tree is already gone?

If only the stump remains, use the stump grinding request. Tell us how many stumps there are, where they sit and what you want to do with the space afterward.
